President's Corner
Leadership Rutherford was created for a number of reasons, foremost to train and encourage residents to get involved in moving the community forward for the benefit of all residents.
By exploring the many facets of Rutherford County -- from critical issues such as health care to diversity -- the program hopes to reveal the needs for leadership.
We encourage Leadership Rutherford graduates to step into those positions. In the past eight years, more than 160 county residents have completed the program.
The primary goal is the betterment of our community.
Other communities have been through the economic turmoil that our county has experienced in the last 10 years. There are many good people trying hard to improve the situation and they are having an impact.
Only by knowing and understanding a problem, can that problem be solved. Leadership Rutherford attempts to provide that information and knowledge to its participants.
The program would not be what it is today without the incredible cooperation of those same leaders who participate in the monthly programs that reflect Rutherford County. I truly believe that their desire to see Rutherford County progress fuels their willingness to share their knowledge.
Each August, a new class begins its journey through the 10-month program. It is wonderful to see the mix of people that experience the Leadership Rutherford challenge.
Each class must complete a project for the betterment of our county.
The 2006 class set the bar high with its Cherry Bounce Trail effort that takes visitors through beautiful and historic areas of the county. Rose Tripoli Mueller and Rheba Ward of the 2006 class shouldered the major responsibility for taking the Cherry Bounce Trail from a great idea to an exciting reality.
I believe Leadership Rutherford will continue to play a role in the prosperous future of Rutherford County.
